Super 8 DIY – Terms & Conditions

By renting a Super 8 DIY kit (“Rental Kit,” “Equipment,” or “Camera”) from Super 8 DIY (“we,” “us,” “our”), you (“you,” “renter,” or “customer”) agree to the following Terms & Conditions:
1. Rental Overview
Your rental includes the Super 8 camera, accessories, and the selected kit contents. A prepaid return shipping label is provided. All shipping (to you and back to us) is included in your rental fee.
2. Security Deposit
A refundable $750 security deposit is collected at checkout.
After the equipment is returned and inspected:

If no damage is found, the full deposit is refunded to your original payment method.

If damage is found, repair costs assessed by a technician will be deducted from your deposit.

If the equipment is lost, stolen, or not repairable, the full deposit will be retained.
3. Return Requirements
You must ship the equipment back no later than 2 days after your event.
The return shipping label provided must be scanned by the carrier at the post office within this 2-day window.

Late returns will be charged a fee equal to the full rental kit price.

All returns must use the carrier and label we provide. No substitutions allowed.
4. Late, Lost, or Missing Items
Failure to return the Equipment, returning it late, or returning it with missing parts may result in additional charges, up to the full replacement cost of the equipment or the full deposit.
5. Condition of Equipment
We test all cameras before shipment. If you believe the camera is not functioning properly upon receiving it, you must notify us within 12 hours of delivery with video or photo proof.
We will not issue refunds for equipment issues reported after your event or after the rental period has begun.
6. No Refunds for User Error
Super 8 cameras are manual, vintage equipment. Footage may naturally appear shaky, blurry, grainy, or inconsistent. This is part of the authentic Super 8 aesthetic.
We do not provide refunds for:

Incorrect camera operation

Improper exposure, focus, settings, or handling

Footage that is blurry, shaky, dark, overexposed, or not what you expected

Improper loading, handling, or storage of film

Accidental opening of the camera door
-
Film that yields no usable images due to user error
-
Any missed moments, “lost memories,” or disappointing results
-
Any outcome that is the result of the inherent unpredictability of film
Refunds are only granted if the camera is proven defective upon arrival.
7. Film Handling & Lab Processing Disclaimer
Film processing is performed by a third-party lab. By renting our kits, you acknowledge and agree that:

We are not responsible for damage, loss, or delays involving film during transit to or from the lab.

We are not responsible for lab errors, processing issues, scanning issues, or delays.

We do not guarantee any results or outcomes from the film.

No refunds are issued if the film is damaged due to user error or environmental factors.

No refunds are issued if the film yields no usable footage unless the camera was proven defective upon delivery.
Film is unpredictable by nature. By renting from us, you accept these risks.
8. Delivery Delays & Shipping Disclaimer
We ship your kit based on the timeline needed to arrive before your event. However:

We are not liable for delays caused by natural disasters, weather events, carrier delays, lost packages, labor strikes, or any circumstances beyond our control.

If your kit arrives late due to such circumstances, we will gladly work with you to find a fair solution, including rescheduling your rental or providing a refund.
We always aim to make things right, even if the delay is outside of our control.
9. Liability Limitation
To the fullest extent permitted by law:

Our maximum liability is limited to the total amount you paid for your rental kit.

We are not liable for emotional loss, missed moments, lost memories, consequential damages, or any perceived negative impact on your event.
You acknowledge that Super 8 film may fail for reasons outside anyone’s control.
10. Ownership
All Equipment remains the property of Super 8 DIY. You may not sell, modify, transfer, or loan the Equipment to any third party.
11. Care & Responsibility
You agree to:

Use the Equipment only for its intended purpose

Keep the camera safe from water, sand, dust, impacts, and extreme temperatures

Return the Equipment in the same condition it was received
-
Follow all instructions provided
-
Be fully responsible for the Equipment until it is returned and scanned by the carrier
12. Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made 10 days or more before the scheduled arrival date receive a full refund.
Cancellations made under 10 days before the scheduled arrival date may not be refundable due to administrative and shipping costs.
13. Agreement
By completing checkout and renting a Super 8 DIY kit, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
